In March, the author received a notice from National Federation of Advanced Information Services about a draft report being issued by National Information Standards Organization. The new report was titled "Demand-Driven Acquisition of Monographs". The press release explained parenthetically that demand-driven acquisition was "also referred to as patron-driven acquisition". Buying stuff somebody wants instead of just what a vendor has plenty of. What a concept! In the meantime, any patron-driven librarians out there could probably go to Amazon for a print book or two. The nice thing about ebooks is that if a patron asks for one, Amazon can deliver it in seconds.
