Long ago, the author worked for RAND Corp. It was a great place to work for a librarian, particularly back in those golden days of intermediary searching. The major funding for RAND in the beginning and for all its early years came from the US Air Force. Back in the 1950s, the Air Force requested a study from its own favorite think tank to defend the strategic value of long-range bombers. Instead, RAND sent the Air Force a report urging the move to missiles. Special and government agency libraries now spend more than 50% of their resource budgets on digital content with government libraries in particular moving to cloud resources.
