Abstract (Document Summary)

According to a new study commissioned by the entertainment industry and backed by NBCUniversal, online piracy continues to rise dramatically. A September 2013 report released by NetNames and funded by NBCUniversal, "Sizing the Piracy Universe," finds that online piracy is still persistent and even worsening. According to the report, 432.0 million unique Internet users worldwide explicitly sought infringing content during January 2013. Online information is keeping pace with even greater amounts of online content now available including news, books, entertainment (movies and music), commerce, and social networking. Although technical solutions providing compliance tools to users are available, they are not yet widely adopted for use by the general population.
