The SureChem database of more than 15 million chemical structures from world patents is now freely available. Digital Science, a technology company for scientific researchers, donated SureChem to the European Molecular Biology Laboratory's European Bioinformatics Institute, which has renamed the database SureChEMBL. This is the first time a collection of this type has been made freely available, signifying a leap forward for open data in drug discovery. Digital Science, which offers freemium versions of many of its products, supports the open science and open data communities.
