Representatives from many of the major players in open access (OA) gathered together at the Hub Cira Centre in Philadelphia on Nov 22, 2013, for a workshop organized by the National Federation of Advanced Information Services. Its theme, Open Access to Published Research: Current Status and Future Directions, drew interest from librarians, publishers, researchers, government officials, and others -- many in physical attendance and some following virtually. Richard Huffine, senior director for the US federal government market of ProQuest, began the workshop with a history of OA publishing.
