Try before you buy is a marketing strategy that has always gone hand-in-hand with libraries. But it's one thing to check out a book you love and decide to purchase it later, and it's quite another to shell out the big bucks for an e-reader only to decide you'd rather read print. That's why many libraries are now loaning out e-readers (along with ebooks) to their patrons. Four librarians from public and academic institutions -- Worcester Public Library, North Carolina State University, San Diego State University, and Reddick Public Library District -- across the country describe their libraries' e-lending models and experiences and offer advice to information professionals looking to start their own e-lending programs.
