Abstract (Document Summary)

YouTube isn't the only place for user-supplied videos. Don't overlook Vimeo -- YouTube's smarter and better-looking little brother. There are family resemblances between the two. Both are Web platforms for user-supplied videos. Both are vibrant properties with enormous, wide-ranging video collections and active user communities. On the other hand, Vimeo is much smaller than YouTube, and it's also more refined and stylish than its often uncouth and unkempt big brother. Although much smaller than Web giant YouTube, Vimeo is not a niche or boutique site. It has more than one million videos, 18 million members, and more than 100 million monthly views. Vimeo's videos cover just about everything that can be captured or represented by video. Although it is created for and maintained by serious filmmakers, it is by no means just for them alone.
