Fairness is certainly in the eye of the beholder. But there's something that the information industry should remember. Information professionals go after whatever information they need, no matter how much they may grouse. However, if a vendor gets a reputation about flat-out not playing fair, that may last a lot longer than just one business transaction, and it can spread to potential clients yet unknown. Here is what information professionals get riled up about when it comes to fairness: They don't appreciate losing something they've had for a long time and the info pros really don't appreciate getting products that are inferior in coverage to the products available to amateurs (aka patrons).
