Libraries are no longer about books, says Helen Partridge, a professor and one of the three keynote speakers at the 5th International Conference on Asia-Pacific Library and Information Education and Practice (A-LIEP 2013). The conference, which was held in mid-July at Khon Kaen City, Thailand, tackled the theme of Issues and Challenges of the Information Professions in the Digital Age from many perspectives. Web 2.0 applications such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have transformed library and information science (LIS) education, according to Partridge. Vilas Wuwongse, PhD, and professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering at Thailand's Thammasat University, discussed the concept of linked data and LIS education.
