Earlier this summer, the author attended three conferences on search technology where he learned that the topic is now just about everything other than "search." Stephen Arnold, managing director of ArnoldIT, rocked the room when he suggested that Big Data had far surpassed the importance of "search" in companies' efforts to uncover business intelligence. Kristian Norling, enterprise search evangelist at Findwise (Sweden), spoke at ITI's Enterprise Search Europe in London, noting that while enterprises remain focused on improving the surfacing of information that they have spent large sums of money collecting and curating, the search engine itself is no longer considered to be the answer.
