Datto Inc is basically one of those classic startup stories, according to CEO and founder Austin McChord. The young entrepreneur started his backup and disaster recovery and intelligent business continuity business in the basement of his Wilton, CO, home right after he graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2007. Launching the company was a big risk for McChord, who took his entrepreneurial first steps on his own. In fact, he ran up $80,000 in credit card debt just getting started because no one really wanted to help out from a VC standpoint, he says. With the unprecedented growth Datto has experienced so far, McChord sees the business continuing to expand. Datto is now immersed in the SMB market, but it has set its sights on the enterprise midmarket as the next step on the horizon.
