Much knowledge has been spread via the Web, but the Web has also spread of lot of untruths. Anyone can post anything on the Internet. The Web is clearly vulnerable to "gaming." Comments sections that provide feedback on Web sites have not been that helpful. They are hard to sift through, lack context, and provide no idea of what the motivation of the commenter might be. Hypothes.is is an open source platform being developed by a San Francisco-based, nonprofit venture founded by Dan Whaley, an entrepreneur who created the first online travel reservation company on the Web in 1995. Hypothes.is has garnered considerable coverage in the media, even well in advance of the alpha period.
