NFAIS, the National Federation of Advanced Information Services, holds its annual conference at the end of February in Philadelphia. Although a handful of information professionals attend, the bulk of the meeting is for database producers. Many attendees work for nonprofit associations, but employees of for-profit companies are there as well. Keep in mind that, although the association's name starts with "national," it's actually an international organization with a tag line of "Serving the global information community." This year's theme was In Search of Answers: Unlocking New Value Prom Content. The notion of finding new value in existing content should be of intense interest to online searchers as well as those who sell information. Scientific and technical publishers are developing technologies to find new information in existing content. Intelligent Content is a completely different type of conference from NFAIS. Web site design is another area of interest to the information professional community.
