Years ago, the author recorded his "A list" music CDs onto the hard drive of his desktop PC. Thanks to some fairly careful work with external hard drives, he still have most of that music around, even though there have been several hard drive meltdowns in the ensuing years. He was not so lucky with about a hundred songs he bought from iTunes. That was back in the time when Apple told you to back up your purchases on recordable CDs or risk losing your music. Later, he learned to keep all purchased songs on one of their iPods, and that worked pretty well. Every vendor now has a cloud product that it wants to sell you or give you with a severe storage limit in the latter case. This not only means that you have files stored without having to think about it, but with most of these services, you also have access to the music through smart mobile phone applications.
