Many sessions at library conferences are about how social media can help make libraries more visible and better reach their user audiences. It's almost a given these days that libraries will maintain a Twitter feed and, less frequently, a Facebook page. Librarians are superb bloggers, whether they blog on behalf of their libraries or to express their personal opinions. The subtext about using social media in the corporate world is somewhat threatening. The marketing aspects of social media are well-documented. Linkedln Corp has received attention mostly as a business research tool. Of all the social media possibilities, Linkedln stands out as being ail about business, without nearly as much noise to signal as you can experience with other forms of social media. Search your company, institution, or enterprise on social media, use alerting services, and experiment with products that are adding a social media component. You might be surprised, even horrified, at what you find.
