For years the author spent close to 50% of her time traveling. With her own computer not always available, placing her bookmarks "in the cloud" just made her life simpler -- so much so that she stopped bookmarking on her desktop and laptop altogether; synching the two became such a chore. In addition, she was using several different browsers on her computer, and the bookmarks saved using one browser did not transfer automatically to others. Perhaps ft was the funny URL that led her to choose the service. It was an innovative service at the time, with an add-in for her browser to make additions to her Delicious folders as easy as it was to add it to Explorer or Firefox. Today, this seems a no-brainer, but in the early 1990s, it was a "next-gen" enhancement. On Dec 9, 2005, the 300,000 users of Delicious were surprised to discover that Yahoo! had acquired the service.
