In the latter half of last century, 1962's Typhoon Karen and 1976's Typhoon Pamela clearly enhanced Guam's economy, influenced the structure of our homes and building, and changed the level of our island's quality of life and way of doing business. Omar and Paka, more so than other typhoons, caused many business and homeowners to seek more self-reliant systems for power and water, via generators and water tanks.
