Part of the global V-Day movement to end violence against women, the play attempts to break taboos -- it includes an entire monologue dedicated to reclaiming the c-word -- and lays bare the trauma caused by rape, molestation and violence against women. Island Girl Power works with 7- to 14-year-old girls, and has a program for volunteers 15 and older, to raise awareness of dangerous or risky behavior, help build skills, and promote higher education, as well as inspire girls to have pride in themselves, Juanita Blaz, program director of Island Girl Power, says.
