"Of the conditions we can correct with gastric bypass, the two we do the happy dance for are diabetes and sleep apnea," said Thomas Inge, a bariatric surgeon at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. In gastric bypass surgery, the stomach is subdivided into a smaller pouch and the small intestine is re-routed so it connects directly to the stomach.
