Brantley has a remarkable ability to break down a pitcher, from Aaron Harang's mechanics (fixing a flaw one start after he walked a season-high six) to Woody Williams' pitch sequence (enabling the soft-tossing Astros right-hander to strike out five Reds his first time through the order). (The next day, Arroyo canceled a gig.) Todd Coffey, Brantley said, needed to quit worrying about four or five pitches and focus on throwing his breaking ball for strikes: "If he can't do that, he ain't never gonna get better up here."
