The Texas program raised graduates' average annual income from $9,900 to nearly $40,000, said AMOS organizers, who traveled to San Antonio to explore the project with leaders including Elisabeth Buck, director of Iowa Workforce Development, and J. Barry Griswell, president of the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation. Participants will get lots of support - help applying for Pell grants to pay for their tuition, help with remedial courses to prepare for entering college, and help with child-care, transportation and other expenses.
