Riordan found first-person stories and vintage photos of 19 local men who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, considered the largest and toughest battle fought by American troops during World War II. According to the National World War II Museum, only 1.2 million of the 16 million veterans of the war are still alive, and 900 die per day.
