Abstract (Document Summary)
' " The focus on oral care is important, considering almost 40 percent of patients with disabilities in Delaware do not get routine dental exams, according to a 2010 report by the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services. Inflammation in the mouth also can impair the body's ability to utilize insulin, which can affect diabetes management, said Dr. Wayne Lipschitz, associate professor of clinical dentistry for the University of Rochester Medical Center's Eastman Institute for Oral Health.
