State auditors spent more than three months looking through the City of Opelousas' files, and along with the alleged malfeasance, it found that the fees for city building rentals were often waived, sometimes for personal events. The city owns six buildings that it rents out for between $75 and $1,850, and the audit found that there were many instances in which renters, including city employees, were granted a waiver of all or some of the fees.
