Marvin Teller, a 47-year-old Chesapeake resident, was stabbed in the chest Feb. 2 during a fight at Milly's Cue and Chew Lounge on South Military Highway. Police spokeswoman Christi Golden said Teller died Wednesday night at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Another Chesapeake man, 30-year-old Matthew Showalter, had been charged with malicious wounding after the fight. On Friday morning, Golden said, the charges were upgraded to second-degree murder and the use of a knife in commission of a felony.
Golden said the fight involved four people, and Showalter told police he was defending himself after the three attacked him. Teller was wounded in the chest and another man in the fight sustained a non-life-threatening injury to his neck. Golden said Teller might have been trying to break up the fight when he was stabbed.
