Abstract (Document Summary)
A bill to dramatically expand the power of Kentucky law enforcement officials to enforce federal immigration law passed a Senate committee Thursday -- but only after a slew of questions and objections about the scope, potential cost and need for the legislation. Among other things, it also bans communities from adopting ordinances to limit immigration enforcement, creates the offense of trespassing for those in the state without legal status and makes it a crime for anyone to assist an illegal immigrant in coming to or living in the state.
