Abstract (Document Summary)

Every teen who tries a stunt on a bike knows Kuoppa and other top riders such as Nathan Penonzek, Matt Wilhelm, Phil Dolan and Jorge Gomez.

"I paint every bike green," said Kuoppa, who practices three to four hours most days but on some days, as much as six to eight hours. "Quamen makes my bike, but they don't mind if I cover up their name. Everybody knows what bike I ride. They know the name that's beneath the paint."

Dolan -- the man of the stoic face -- won $5,500 by finishing first, ahead of Penonzek and Kuoppa, in Friday's Trials final. Still, he will have to beat Kuoppa in the X Games championship Aug. 17-23 in Philadelphia to take away the king's crown.
