A VOW TO LOSE WEIGHT IN 2002 ; RESOLVING (AGAIN) TO DROP THE EXTRA POUNDS, KEEP THEM OFF AND CONQUER THE PROBLEM OF OVEREATING
[STATEWIDE Edition]
Hartford Courant
-
Hartford, Conn.
Abstract (Document Summary)
`On New Year's Eve, 1996, I made a resolution to lose a specific amount of weight in one year. ... It was the only New Year's resolution I ever kept." So, there'll be no Pollyanna rallying cries here about "resolving once and for all" to achieve permanent weight loss. No lectures on liking yourself, no promises of a better life as a slender person, no news of breakthroughs in the weight-loss field. Exercise. Plenty of people lose weight without exercising but research -- and just plain, logical thinking -- shows no one kept it off without including exercise in her life. Like food, variety is important in exercise. Walk, swim, lift weights, do aerobics, yoga, join a hiking group -- make a smorgasbord of it, and maybe it'll be more adventuresome and less arduous.
