COMPLEX `24' PACKS THE THRILLS, DRAMA
[STATEWIDE Edition]

Abstract (Document Summary)
So was Steven Bochco's mystery/courtroom/family drama "Murder One," a series that took an entire season to work through one case. Critics loved it but worried, rightfully so, that viewers wouldn't have the patience to stick with it or might bail if they missed one or two episodes, afraid they'd never catch up. Recaps of previous episodes to bring previously absent viewers up to date didn't seem to alleviate the problem. This isn't the best time for [Jack Bauer]. He's got some messy family issues he's been trying to resolve. Having just returned home after a separation from his wife, Teri (Leslie Hope), and 15-year-old daughter Kimberly (Elisha Cuthbert), Bauer's trying to deliver on some much-needed quality time with the family. He's playing chess with his daughter when we first meet him. Mom is off alone in another room. It's still early in the healing process, and Kimberly is in that "loves Dad, blames Mom" stage. But she is a master at manipulating both of them. Coldly giving her mother the brush on her way to bed, she says goodnight to her father, adding, "I'm glad you moved back in, Daddy." It's a trust-no-one job as it is, but Jack is such a man of his convictions, he's gone as far as to turn his own in when they compromise on truth and justice. That doesn't make life at The Agency any easier or safer for Bauer. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner. Further reproduction or distribution is prohibited without permission.
