NEW PILL TARGETS IMPOTENCE DRUG COULD BANISH PROBLEM FROM MILLIONS OF BEDROOMS
[STATEWIDE Edition]
Hartford Courant
-
Hartford, Conn.
Abstract (Document Summary)
Instead, the hottest item to hit drug store shelves in years is called Viagra, a little pill that helps impotent men get and retain erections. And as much as FDA approval Friday caused a rise in spirits and Pfizer stock Friday, it was truly remarkable to the British scientists who, quite by chance, happened upon their discovery of Viagra's miraculous qualities while seeking a treatment for chest pain. Viagra's promise was first noticed at Pfizer's laboratory in Sandwich, England, where scientists were testing a drug called sildenafil to treat angina, the painful heart condition caused by constricting or clogging of the heart arteries.
