LONG LANE TO CLOSE SOON ; GIRLS FROM SCHOOL TO BE DISPERSED
[7 SPORTS FINAL Edition]
Hartford Courant
-
Hartford, Conn.
Abstract (Document Summary)
The tightened measures came after state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and state Child Advocate Jeanne Milstein investigated the suicide attempt and immediately called on the DCF to do more to protect the safety of girls housed at Long Lane. Similar criticism has been leveled at the DCF for how it runs the Connecticut Juvenile Training School in Middletown for male juvenile offenders. The $57 million facility opened in August 2001. DCF said following Long Lane's closure, 12 girls will be moved to Connecticut Children's Place, a treatment facility the DCF runs in East Windsor that is being expanded to accommodate more girls.
