Abstract (Document Summary)

Alec Balbachan suffered severe face and neck wounds in the attack, which occurred Friday night at his uncle's home at 67 Sterling St., Hartford. Alec had followed his 8- year-old cousin into the back yard when the two Rottweilers attacked. The boy had stopped breathing and lost a significant amount of blood by the time paramedics began treating him.

Doctors at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center revived the boy and performed emergency surgery. He was transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit at Hartford Hospital Saturday morning. He was pronounced dead there at 12:06 p.m. Sunday, said James Battaglio, the hospital's spokesman. Throughout his hospital stay Alec was on life-support systems and was not breathing on his own.
