With her approval rating sagging, [Jane Swift] found her overtures to at least four people for the lieutenant governor's post spurned. She finally persuaded Patrick Guerriero to run with her. At 33, the former suburban Melrose mayor and state representative is younger than Swift and is openly gay. If elected, he would be the first openly homosexual person to win statewide office in Massachusetts and immediately would find himself at odds with Swift's rejection of gay marriages.
