DuPage County schools year after year have the highest average scores in state-mandated student tests among the 102 Illinois counties.

Avery Coonley School in Downers Grove reports that scores on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, an exam given in schools across the United States, are in the top 1 percent in the nation.

Its 362 youngsters from the age of 3 through 8th grade come from some of the most affluent families in Oak Brook, Hinsdale, Naperville, Glen Ellyn, Burr Ridge, Wheaton and other DuPage communities.
