Abstract (Document Summary)

Michaelmania will have to wait until next week. At the moment, the charts have been taken over by the "La Bamba" blitz.

Los Lobos' version of the Ritchie Valens hit is still so popular that it swept to a third straight week as the most popular song in America-and kept Michael Jackson's "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" firmly in No. 2. ("Loving You" also failed to move up from No. 2 on the black singles list, where "Love is a House" by the Force M.D.s held on to No. 1.)

But the real shocker came on the LP list, where the soundtrack from the movie "La Bamba" surged from No. 3 to the top spot, ending the 11-week reign of Whitney Houston's "Whitney," which dropped to No. 2.
