Abstract (Document Summary)

Houston, who last week made history by being the first female artist to debut at No. 1 on the album chart (with "Whitney"), this week scored her second straight "double" by hanging on to both her LP title and her top ranking on the singles' list with "I Wanna Dance with Somebody."

She also added to the honors achieved by "Dance," which this week hit No. 1 on the adult contemporary list and moved into contention on the black singles' chart by jumping from No. 5 to No. 2. "Dance" also zipped from No. 9 to No. 4 in dance-club play.

One is Heart's big ballad "Alone," which moved from No. 4 to No. 2 and is starting to pick up momentum with the adult contemporary crowd. The other is Bob Seger's "Shakedown," a former No. 1 rock hit that leaped from No. 7 to No. 3 this week.
