Abstract (Document Summary)

Chalk up a big week for the West Coast band Heart, which managed to steal away one of Whitney Houston's major chart titles--No. 1 on the singles' list --with the rock ballad "Alone."

The slow-but-steady rise of "Alone" ended the two-week reign of Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody," which now is burning out after just nine weeks on the charts. Though it retained its No. 1 title on the adult contemporary list, "Dance" failed to move up from last week's No. 2 ranking on the black charts, which continue to be dominated by Stephanie Mills' "I Feel Good All Over."
