Abstract (Document Summary)

The American charts again belong to the Irish band U2, which as expected scored its second straight "double" by having both the No. 1 single ("With or Without You") and No. 1 album ("The Joshua Tree") in the same week.

The group also is dominating the international music scene, with "The Joshua Tree" ranking as either current or former No. 1 in Britain, Canada, West Germany, the Netherlands and Australia. The only other album with that kind of across-the-board support is Paul Simon's Grammy-winning "Graceland," a former No. 1 on many international lists and still in the Top 5 in Canada, Australia and the Netherlands.
