ARETHA FRANKLIN HITS NO. 1 AGAIN AFTER 20-YEAR HIATUS

Abstract (Document Summary)

Now, Franklin is finally back in the top spot with "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)," a duet with George Michael that already has hit No. 1 on many charts around the world. "I Knew You Were Waiting" also is Michael's first U.S. No. 1 since his split a year ago with Wham! partner Andrew Ridgely.

Franklin and Michael's move (from last week's No. 3) to the top spot came at the expense of the Starship's "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," which slipped to No. 2 overall but did manage to keep "I Knew You Were Waiting" from taking over its No. 1 title on the adult contemporary list.
