Abstract (Document Summary)

Chalk up another victory for Billy Vera & the Beaters, whose "At This Moment" held off a strong challenge from Madonna's "Open Your Heart" for a second week as the most popular song in America.

And now, "At This Moment" is showing signs of becoming a true across- the-board hit. This week, Vera's big ballad (which was recorded live at the Roxy in Los Angeles) also rose to No. 1 on the adult contemporary list. What's more unusual is that the record also jumped from No. 87 to No. 64 on the country chart (which rarely is penetrated by "crossover" pop hits) and showed up as No. 94 on the black singles list.
