Abstract (Document Summary)

The study, commissioned by the Country Music Association in Nashville to aid it in formulating market-broadening strategy, focused on consumers' attitudes to all the major popular music types. It found that 23 percent prefer country music over all others while another 44 percent represent "strong opportunity" for its expansion. Only 22 percent rejected it out of hand.

ON THE RECORD: Jerry Bradley, the former RCA-Nashville boss who recently took over as head of Nashville's Opryland Records, says he is expecting to sign "one major act" and a few "newcomers" his first year and to release his first records soon. . . . The Holly Dunn video of her song "Daddy's Hands" is a family affair. Dunn wrote the song about her father, a Church of Christ minister, and she is accompanied on acoustic guitar by her brother, Nashville songwriter Chris Waters. . . .
