Abstract (Document Summary)

That ended the No. 1 run by the summer's two hottest albums--the "Top Gun" soundtrack (now No. 2) and Madonna's "True Blue" (now No. 4)--and started the fall season with the second straight No. 1 album for Richie. It looks like he'll be able to keep his title for at least another week, because there is only one other LP in the Top 10 with enough momentum to make it to the top. That's Lewis & Co.'s "Fore!," which made a strong move from No. 10 to No. 6 this week, but is still not in position to threaten Richie.

But next week, look for major breakthroughs by Janet Jackson's "When I Think of You" (up to No. 7 from No. 14 this week), Genesis' "Throwing It All Away" (up to No. 12 from No. 17), Tina Turner's "Typical Male" (up to No. 13 from No. 19) and Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" (up to No. 22 from No. 30). All are on track for future Top 5 honors.

Here are predictions for next week's singles' chart (last week, this column correctly forecast five of the Top 10 songs): 1. "Stuck With You," 2. "Friends and Lovers," 3. "When I Think of You," 4. "Dreamtime," 5. "Don't Forget Me," 6. "Dancing on the Ceiling," 7. "Walk This Way," 8. "Two of Hearts," 9. "Throwing It All Away," 10. "Typical Male."
