After nearly 20 years of trying, the British rock group Genesis has scored its first No. 1 single on the American charts.
The song that finally did it for them is "Invisible Touch," which this week moved up from No. 2 to take over the top spot from another British group, Simply Red, whose "Holding Back the Years" dropped all the way to No. 5 after just one week as the U.S. chart champ.
Before "Invisible Touch," Genesis has not had much success on the American singles' charts--its only previous Top 10 showing came in 1983, when "That's All!" peaked at No. 6--though it has been a consistent power on the album charts.
