Abstract (Document Summary)

This week, Patti LaBelle again had sensational success on the charts, and it's not just because her "On My Own" duet with Michael McDonald held on to its title as the most popular song in America.

But this week saw exceptional gains by both LaBelle's "Winner in You," which jumped from No. 4 to No. 2, and Janet Jackson's "Control," which zipped from No. 5 to No. 3. Those nifty moves dropped Seger's "Like a Rock" to No. 4 and Van Halen's "5150" to No. 5, and prevented Journey's "Raised on Radio" from improving on its No. 6 spot.
