Abstract (Document Summary)

Chalk up a superstar week for the superstar duo of Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald, whose "On My Own" this week took over the No. 1 singles' spot from Madonna's "Live to Tell," which dropped to No. 2 after just one week at the top.

LaBelle, of course, was lead singer of the trio called LaBelle, which hit No. 1 in 1975 with "Lady Marmalade." Before that, the group was known sometimes as the Bluebelles and sometimes as Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles, but had only one other Top 20 hit: "I Sold My Heart to the Junkman," which hit No. 15 in 1962.
