Oak Park's Alvin Campbell won three field events--the high jump (6 feet 6 inches), the long jump (22-5) and the triple jump (46-6 1/2)--to power the Huskies to the team title with 122 points to 103 for runner-up York in the West Suburban Conference track and field meet Saturday. Proviso East was the host school, but the meet was held at Hinsdale Central.
Catholic League Meet--Junior David Yarbrough won the high jump (6-2), the long jump (20-11 1/4) and the triple jump (47-3) to help Mendel Catholic amass 86 points in a runaway victory for the team title at Loyola Academy. Teammate Rodney Chambers won the 1,600 meters (4:24.9) and set a conference record with a 9:16.3 in the 3,200 meters. Mendel sprinters David Moore and Malcolm Davis won the 100 and 200, respectively, and ran on the school's winning 400- and 800-meter relay teams.
Des Plaines Valley Meet--Meet host Downers Grove South swept honors in first, second and third singles and second doubles to run away with team honors. Jeff Neuman battered Hinsdale South's Uri Ahn 6-2, 6-0 in first singles, David Ortiz topped Hinsdale South's Eric Schmid 7-6, 6-4 in second singles, and Martin Radman topped Addison Trail's Tom Isaacson 6-2, 6-4 in third singles. Kit Mueller and John Neuman beat Hinsdale South's Dan Moon- David Gang 6-1, 6-2 in second doubles. Hinsdale South's Rich Agerstowski- Dan Woestendick beat Willowbrook's Steve Lavin-Bill Boubin 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in first doubles.
