But that changed this week, because the Starship's "We Built This City" managed to hold on as chart champion, despite very strong competition from Glenn Frey's "You Belong to the City," which stayed at No. 2 for the third straight week, and "Separate Lives," by Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin, which zipped from No. 6 to No. 3.
That's very good news for the San Francisco-based Starship, which never before had scored a No. 1 single in all its years as a top rock act, first as the Jefferson Airplane in the '60s and then as the Jefferson Starship in the '70s.
