Abstract (Document Summary)

Now, USA for Africa's benefit single has also become an international phenomenon. "We Are the World" is already No. 1 in Britain, Australia and the Netherlands, hit No. 2 in its first week on the Japanese charts and is No. 3 in West Germany. And in Canada, where "World" is in the Top 10, the No. 1 single is a featured track from the "We Are the World" album titled "Tears Are Not Enough." It was recorded by Northern Lights, a group of Canadian superstars that included Bryan Adams, Anne Murray, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell.

The only sign that the "We Are the World" single might be slipping in popularity comes on the adult contemporary charts, where "World" dropped to No. 3 behind the new No. 1, Debarge's hugely popular "Rhythm of the Night," and Madonna's "Crazy for You."
