Robert S. "Buck" Halperin, 77, chairman of Commercial Light Co., was one of Chicago's most decorated figures in World War II. As a star-class sailor, he won a bronze medal in the 1960 Olympics and a gold medal in the 1963 Pan American Games.
Services for Mr. Halperin, a resident of the Near North Side and Palm Springs, Calif., will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in Arlington National Cemetery. He died Wednesday in Eisenhower Hospital in Palm Springs.
Mr. Halperin played football at Notre Dame under Coach Knute Rockne and at the University of Wisconsin. He joined a professional football team, the Brooklyn Dodgers, in 1932. After that, he coached football at St. Patrick High School.
