Abstract (Document Summary)

This week, for the second week in a row, the most popular song in America is "Everything She Wants" by the British duo Wham, which now is savoring a chart feat that even Michael Jackson wasn't able to accomplish at the height of his "Thriller" mania.

As soon as "Everything She Wants" hit the top, Wham's "Make It Big" album became the first LP in the '80s to generate three No. 1 hits on the singles charts. (Wham's other chart champions: "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Careless Whisper.) Jackson's "Thriller" barely missed that achievement, with two No. 1 singles and one No. 2.
